Polar Bears (3-5) year olds
Welcome to the polar bear room, we have a highly qualified and dedicated staff team who work hard to ensure your child gets the most out of their nursery experience. The staff plan daily activities based upon the children's needs and interests. All of which are based around the Early Years Foundation Stage profile, ensuring that all the children gain a good foundation in their academic learning, as well as learning life skills. As our room is the pre-school room we prepare the children for school life including emergent writing, numeracy and early phonics.
We understand that nursery is a part of your child's holistic development so we work closely with parents and carers. Multi-agency work is also vital for all children's development and whether this be speech and language therapists or outreach workers. For example children are screened as part of the Every Child's a Talker programme (ECAT) this helps identify and implement strategies for children who may require speech and language support. In the polar bear room we strive to create a warm, friendly and welcoming environment in which your child can grow and learn with their friends.
Our Polar Bear staff
The Polar Bear room caters for children aged between 3 – 5 years working on a staff ratio of one staff member to every eight children or one to thirteen if we have a staff member who has achieved the Early Years Professional Status qualification.
Staff qualifications and experience allow challenging and enjoyable experiences to be provided. Furthermore, staff are also trained to deliver the BLAST programme which focuses upon helping children to develop listening and attention skills. Using Makaton signs is also a great way for staff to support individual children allowing them to access the curriculum and make progress.
Useful Information For New Starters
We work hard to promote partnerships with parents, this includes a six months parents evening to share and discuss their child's learning and development. We also hold an annual Christmas show, summer graduation along with taking part in the summer parade through South Tyneside.
At Bede Burn Kindergarten staff use the Letters and Sounds phonics programme to help build upon and develop children's speaking and listening skills whilst preparing them to read when they start reception school.
