Dolphins (0-2) year olds
Welcome to the dolphin room, in the dolphin room the children are aged between 1 -2 years old and we cater for 24 children on a 1:3 ratio. The team in the dolphin room have 22 years' experience combined within early years, staff also have up to date and relevant qualifications and training in first aid, food hygiene and safe guarding. Additional training specific to this age range includes weaning, Every Child's a Talker and Makaton used for baby signing.
We provide a safe, stimulation and caring environment that meets the children's own individual needs and interests. At this particular stage of development the children's own individual routines are paramount and met fully by own individual care plans.
The children are involved in large group activities which provide a variety of sensory experiences; the sensory experiences include messy play such as gloop, foam, paint, sand and water. The large group activities include ring –games, story of the week, parachute games and singing time. During song time and story time the staff promote the use of makaton to develop the children's communications and language skills.
The Dolphin room caters for children aged between 1 and 2 years working on a staff ratio of one staff member to every three children.
Staff communicate on a weekly basis to discuss the children's development and the next steps that are required to progress to the next milestone, this then ensures that the children's individual needs and interests are met. We are currently developing our outdoor area to provide a safe and stimulating age appropriate environment; this is incorporated into our daily planning and routine.
